Read the airport name, not only the city
Chengdu is served by Chengdu Tianfu International Airport and Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport. They are not two names for one terminal. The official Shuangliu airport site publishes separate flight, terminal, transport, and inter-airport guidance, and notices show that some services and flights can move between the airports. Save the airport name, terminal, and flight number from the airline confirmation rather than typing only “Chengdu” into a map.
Tell the hospital which airport and arrival time you have. If a connection requires moving between airports, treat that as a separate journey with baggage, security, traffic, and operating-hour risk. Ask what to do if you arrive after the outpatient desk closes. These questions help scheduling; they do not confirm a clinical appointment or immigration permission.
Use Tianfu’s eastern route deliberately
Tianfu International Airport is served by Chengdu Metro Line 18. Chengdu Rail Group describes an express service between South Railway Station and Tianfu Airport Terminal 1/2 station, while the airport’s transport centre brings together metro and other connections. Check the current timetable, direction, and terminal walking route on the day you travel. A metro journey shown on a map still needs time for immigration, baggage, lifts, and the walk to the hospital vehicle or next platform.
For a hospital in the central city or south Chengdu, compare Line 18 with a pre-booked car, especially if you have mobility needs or a fixed check-in time. Ask the provider to write the hospital’s Chinese address and the entrance name; “main hospital” may not identify the right tower. Keep a fallback hotel near the confirmed campus if an arrival at Tianfu is late, instead of assuming you can cross the city safely after a long flight.
Use Shuangliu’s west-and-south connections
Shuangliu International Airport has its own terminals and airport transport pages. The official airport information lists Metro Line 10 for Shuangliu Airport stations and Line 19 toward Tianfu Airport, alongside buses, taxis, and ride-hailing. The exact station, terminal exit, and last train matter more than a generic “metro available” note. Confirm whether the airline uses T1 or T2 and where your hospital car will meet you.
If your itinerary changes from Shuangliu to Tianfu, do not copy the original pickup time into a new message. Reissue one dated handover containing airport, terminal, flight, luggage status, hospital district, and a contact owner. The airport’s interconnection guide can explain a route, but it cannot reserve a bed, waive a check-in rule, or decide whether a patient should travel.
Confirm the Chengdu care address
Before purchasing a non-refundable ticket, request the hospital’s legal or official name, district, campus, building, department, outpatient registration point, and appointment window. Chengdu routes can differ sharply between the airport areas, the central districts, Shuangliu, and the Tianfu New Area. Ask whether an international desk, interpreter, or pre-registration step is actually available and what documents are required. Avoid relying on an unverified personal phone number or a screenshot without a date.
Make the route usable for a tired traveller: write the address in Chinese, save a map pin from the hospital’s official channel, and note lifts and accessible entrances. Share broad administrative facts at first contact and protect passport numbers, full medical files, and scans. The coordination record should show what is confirmed, what is pending, and who can correct it.
Protect the appointment and the return
Create a schedule that separates airport clearance, city transfer, hotel check-in, hospital registration, and the return trip. Add a buffer for weather, traffic, rail changes, and baggage delay. Verify transport notices and your insurer’s terms close to departure. No airport timetable can guarantee a treatment slot, and no coordinator can replace a carrier, hospital, immigration, or clinician decision.
At the visit, keep the written registration and follow-up instructions with your travel record. Request copies or secure access to reports and a named administrative route for corrections. If you need urgent care, seek immediate local medical help. The practical outcome is a dated, address-specific handover that remains understandable if a flight, terminal, or appointment changes.
